FY 2009 NOFA: Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA)

Update on HOPWA competitive funds in 2009.

On Monday, December 29, 2008, the Department published the general section of the NOFA announcing an expected publication date for the HOPWA program NOFA later in the year. Under the 2009 Appropriations Act, the HOPWA program must give priority funding to expiring permanent supportive housing grants prior to considering funding for new project awards. To implement this requirement, HUD issued CPD notice 09-01, "Standards for Fiscal Year 2009 HOPWA Permanent Supportive Housing Renewal Grant Applications," on January 27, 2009. The Department received 26 applications for renewal applications under this notice. The Department's selection announcements were made on May 8, 2009 and on July 21, 2009 for 26 eligible renewal awards involving a total of $29,428,416 in grant funds. There are insufficient funds remaining after selection of these 26 grants and no additional competition for new projects will be conducted in 2009. If you have any questions you may contact the Office of HIV/AIDS Housing at 202-708-1934 or HOPWA@hud.gov.
